2012 Homeland Security Symposium. GHRC NDIA is your local source for networking, knowledge exchange, and business development opportunities with the government and defense industry.  The NDIA can connect you for success through association events, advocacy, and local chapters.  To that end, next year our Chapter will be supporting the Christopher Newport University (CNU) Center for American Studies (CAS) as a cosponsor of their 2012 Homeland Security Symposium.  The theme of the event is “Enhancing Public – Private Partnerships and Coordination” and it will focus on the regional aspects of Emergency Management, Disaster Recovery, and Cyber Security.  The draft agenda already includes an impressive array of both local and national level speakers.  This day and a half event will be held on the CNU Campus 19/20 July.

Our Chapter’s role will be to serve as both a member of the Steering Committee and as the Industry Coordinator. We encourage all of our members who have an interest in Homeland Security to become individual, corporate sponsors with your financial support.  Please go to our web site at http://www.ndia-ghrc.org/ and select the Events Files under the Chapter Events tab to review symposium and sponsorship information.  Each level of sponsorship includes both the opportunity to set up an exhibitors table and tickets for multiple attendees to the symposium itself.  And because this is a local event there are no air transportation expenses, no hotel charges and no per diem requirements (four meals are included).  So this promises to be a very cost-effective proposition for local businesses. Annual Golf Tourney. Thanks go out to Jim Hartney and his team for a great golf tourney.  This year’s tourney was held on the south side at Cypress Creek Golf Course.  The organizers even conjured up perfect weather. We are now looking for a volunteer to lead the effort for our 2012 tournament.  Please contact Jim if you are interested. We will target Sep or Oct again next year.

Annual Scholarship Luncheon. Please mark Tues, December 13th down on your calendars for our annual Scholarship Luncheon.  We gave out six scholarships to Christopher Newport University, Hampton University, Thomas Nelson Community College and Tidewater Community College in support of students with the desire and inclination to enter the national defense industrial workforce.  A luncheon notice with location and speaker will go out later this month. We are still working to get a rep from one of our local Congressional delegations to join us as guest speaker as we honor the scholarship recipients and their institutions.
